Program Descriptions

Sport ABC’s:

The Saskatoon Sport Council has designed the Sport ABCs program to ensure young children have the most positive experience possible from sport. The focus of this program is on learning fundamental skills before entering into more competitive sports.

Children, with their parents, learn a variety of sport skills together through participating in fun activities that enhance agility, balance and coordination. Parent enrolment with children is required. Ages 3-6 years.

Yoga:

Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing. Our instructor Reg is well known to our Yoga regulars and a great way to start your yoga journey or get back into it. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottle and yoga mat. Ages 13+

Zumba:

Zumba is a fitness program that combines Latin and international music with dance moves. Zumba routines incorporate interval training — alternating fast and slow rhythms — to help improve cardiovascular fitness. Ages 13+

Improves flexibility, muscular strength and endurance with a variety of muscle conditioning and stretching techniques with equipment. Ages 13+

Women Self-Defense Course Level 1:

In this course, the basic fundamentals of female self-defence will be offered. You will learn effective life-saving skills and techniques in a safe and welcoming learning environment.  No skills necessary, we encourage you to bring a friend to learn with! Ages 13+

Day 1 (4 hours)

  • What is Self Defense and why it’s so important
  • The mental awareness of self-defense 
  • Warm-up and basic skills to practice 
  • Techniques (Demonstration and practice)

Day 2 (3 hours)

  • Warm-up and basic skills 
  • Review and correction of the techniques

Stay Safe Course:

Real-world scenarios often call on children to respond to challenges. The Stay Safe! program teaches applicable and age-appropriate skills, while increasing and reinforcing a youth’s capacity to improve their own safety. Whether in their community or on their own, this group will be given better tools to Stay Safe! in a variety of different situations. Aimed at children 9 – 13 years old who are preparing to be able to stay safe at home on their own. Take home Manual provided.

Babysitting Course:

The babysitting course, refreshed and revised, now has a greater emphasis on First Aid skills. The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviours to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. Babysitting promises to deepen and enhance the responsibility that older youth feel when caring for younger children. This updated curriculum, complete with new science, also provides improved learning when it comes to giving the appropriate care in the event of an emergency. Aimed at youth 11 – 16 years old and interested in taking responsibility for younger children. Take home manual and small First Aid Kit included.
